Jessica Nelson

I've been a freelance editor for four years, but have been a word nerd all my life. My job ranges from herding stray commas to hunting down plot holes. Small details to the big ticket items. Throughout the process, I will always be supportive but honest. I want your book to be the best it can be.
With bachelor's and master's degrees in English, I bring both technical knowledge and a lifelong passion for reading to your book. I'm the sort to pore over dictionary entries for alternate spellings. In addition, my varied reading preferences and tendency to hoard eclectic information help me spot errors others miss. As a reader, I love it all: paranormal, YA, sci-fi, the classics, literary fiction, speculative fiction, mysteries, westerns, feminist blogs, historical fiction, and I've even read a few non-fiction books here and there. I accept work in all fiction genres, with emphasis on paranormal, fantasy, science fiction, romance, and YA.
In the past, I've served as a magazine editor for higher education, the director of a literacy organization, and a communications director. I live in Alabama with my husband and two charming offspring, and have published one short story in the southern lit anthology Chinaberries and Crows. I also wrote and illustrated an alphabet picture book, The (Not Very) Scary and (Sometimes) Hairy Book of Monster Letters, which is self published. In addition to editing, I am a freelance writer for a non-profit organization.
